Welcome to a new edition of 451 CAOS Insight Update, the biweekly newsletter from The 451 Group Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) Research Service. In this latest edition, we continue our coverage of open source in the mobile space by focusing on MeeGo, the new open source OS that is a combination of Intel's Moblin and Nokia's Meamo. We also offer a glimpse of what's going on with open source software in the embedded space, including continued work in virtualization and a new electronics OS based on Ubuntu. That's not the only place where open source software continues to move, given the continued prominence of open source in cloud computing. Also key to cloud computing is the new breed of 'NoSQL' databases, and we are also following MongoDB vendor 10gen and its scalable, document-oriented database designed for real-time operations. Also, in a post that takes a different perspective on our CAOS discussions of the latest in licensing, we take up the topic of copyrights with open source software and how their complexity can lead to problems. As part of The 451 Group's Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) Research Service, we also produce a regular podcast call for CAOS clients. The podcast includes a roundup of news, developments and disruption in open source software by 451 Group analysts Matt Aslett and Jay Lyman. The podcast call is in listen-only mode, although we welcome questions, topics or feedback via email. Archives of past calls are available as a public podcast through iTunes or from the CAOS Theory podcast site. Feel free to share this link with anyone.
