Welcome to a new edition of 451 CAOS Insight Update, the biweekly newsletter from The 451 Group's Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) Research Service. In this edition, we are pleased to present our latest special report, a collaboration of our CAOS and CloudScape practices: Seeding the Clouds. The report, summarized on the CAOS Theory blog, considers some of the most broadly used open source pieces among major cloud computing providers, such as Amazon, Google, Rackspace, Terremark and VMware, as well as the impact and future of this open source use for cloud. Continuing our coverage of cloud computing and its players, we recently published a report on Canonical and its strategy shift toward subscriptions with its Ubuntu Advantage, which joins Canonical's systems management, training and support offerings in one package. There is additional analysis of open source, cloud computing and commercialization coming together with our coverage of NoSQL database player Hypertable Inc. Finally, we have also discussed Oracle and its Java lawsuit against Google over Android, which may not actually be a fight between good and evil, but is indicative of the 'bad guy' label we see vendors wear when they attack, or are perceived to be attacking, open source software communities.

As part of The 451 Group's Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) Research Service, we also produce a regular podcast call for CAOS clients. The podcast includes a roundup of news, developments and disruption in open source software by 451 Group analysts Matt Aslett and Jay Lyman. The call is in listen-only mode, although we welcome questions, topics or feedback via email.

Archives of past calls are available as a public podcast through iTunes or from the CAOS Theory podcast site. Feel free to share this link with anyone.
